overview

Server-validated tattoo shop for FiveM, replacing xnTattoos with security and performance fixes

FX-TATTOOS is a tattoo shop script built as a drop-in replacement for xnTattoos, rewritten from scratch to address exploits and performance issues in the original.

The script enforces server-side validation on all transactions: clients send only a tattoo name, and the server looks up pricing, checks distance, ownership and rate limits before charging. This prevents exploits that allowed free tattoos, negative prices, or purchases from across the map.

It solves GTA's decoration pool limitation by tracking the budget in real-time and refusing purchases before the pool fills, preventing tattoos from silently disappearing. Multiple players can open the shop simultaneously without clipping into each other, as each is moved to their own routing bucket. Tattoos persist through clothing changes via illenium-appearance integration.

  • 01Server-authoritative pricing with client sending name only, never price
  • 02Server-side distance, ownership and rate-limit checks on every action
  • 03Database-level duplicate protection via unique constraint
  • 04Decoration budget tracking prevents GTA's silent draw failure
  • 05Live capacity counter in menu, purchase refused before overflow
  • 06Per-player routing bucket prevents multiple customers clipping
  • 07illenium-appearance integration preserves tattoos through clothing changes
  • 08Drop-in replacement for xnTattoos with documented migration path
  • 09Supports QBCore, Qbox and ESX with automatic framework detection
  • 10Optional ox_target with E-key fallback
  • 11Config and catalog editable after purchase, outside escrow

Supported Frameworks

  • QBCore
  • Qbox
  • ESX

Security & Validation

  • Server-authoritative pricing — client sends name, server looks up price
  • Server-side distance, ownership and rate-limit checks on every action
  • Database-level duplicate protection via unique constraint, not just application logic
  • No payload can be crafted to obtain free tattoos, negative prices, or purchases from across the map

Decoration Pool Management

  • Tracks decoration budget to prevent GTA's silent draw failure
  • Live capacity counter displayed in menu
  • Purchase refused server-side before pool overflow
  • Adjustable opacity layers trading darkness against capacity

Multi-Player Support

  • Per-player routing bucket prevents multiple customers standing inside each other
  • Bucket restored on exit, disconnect and resource restart

Integration & Compatibility

  • illenium-appearance integration — tattoos survive every clothing change
  • One compatibility flag required
  • Automatic framework detection across QBCore, Qbox and ESX
  • Optional ox_target with E-key fallback when absent

Migration from xnTattoos

  • Built as drop-in replacement with documented migration path
  • Migration backs up original playerskins JSON
  • Rollback supported

Performance

  • One database query per session, cached in memory afterwards
  • Zero frame loops with ox_target; distance-based wake-up as fallback
  • Catalog pre-grouped by body zone, decorations reapplied only on change

Configuration

  • Configurable economy — divisor, minimum price, cash or bank, removal cost or percentage
  • Adjustable opacity layers trading darkness against capacity, both documented
  • Badge driven by collection or individual name, sent once per menu open

Database & Setup

  • Schema created automatically on first start — idempotent
  • Manual SQL file included
  • Config, catalog, framework adapter and SQL outside escrow — editable after purchase

Developer Features

  • Two server exports for other scripts: read a player's tattoos, check session state
  • Non-blocking export that returns immediately and warms cache in background

latest release

v1.0.2
  • Fixed leg tattoos not displaying correctly.
  • Fixed tattoos carrying over to the next character when switching characters without disconnecting (e.g. via fx-multicharacter/qb-multicharacter). The player's tattoo cache and citizenid binding are now reset on every character load, so a new character no longer reads or briefly shows the previous character's tattoos.
